Save the Date for the 2008 100 Top Hospitals Summit
June 4-6, 2008
The Broadmoor Hotel
Colorado Springs, Colorado
On May 8-9, Thomson Healthcare hosted the 2007 100 Top Hospitals® Summit at The Venetian, Las Vegas. Held in conjunction with the 2007 Thomson Healthcare Insight Conference, the summit celebrated the achievements of the entire 100 Top Hospitals community by honoring past and present 100 Top Hospitals award winners.
After an optional afternoon golf outing, this two-day event formally kicked off with a black-tie awards dinner on Tuesday evening where Thomson Healthcare recognized all 100 Top Hospitals award winners and congratulated them on being among a truly elite group of top-performing hospitals. Special recognition was given to hospitals that won the 100 Top Hospitals National award 10 times, as well as those that won the 100 Top Hospitals National or Cardiovascular awards five times. These winners were also recognized in a

Summit attendees also heard from a pair of outstanding General Session speakers. Through his humor and humility,
Lou Holtz
, the celebrated football coach and ESPN analyst, inspired each member of the audience to be a leader by having a vision, leading by example, and holding people accountable. Sharing examples from his coaching days, Holtz explained to his listeners that a positive attitude, the passion to succeed, teamwork, and the need to dream, all breed success.
Mark McClellan, M.P.A., M.D., Ph.D.
, former administrator of CMS and a leader in healthcare reform, instructed his audience on the need for bold reforms that will lead to change. McClellan encouraged the audience to address the root causes of frustration in healthcare, and to stop thinking about healthcare in the traditional way. He discussed the need to promote health, wellness, and prevention. According to McClellan, successful initiatives in healthcare delivery reform will minimize the need to reduce costs by reducing the quality of care.
In addition, at a private breakfast,
Kathryn J. McDonagh, Ph.D.
, president and CEO, CHRISTUS Spohn Health System, and
Jean Chenoweth
, senior vice president performance improvement and 100 Top Hospitals programs, Thomson Healthcare, educated summit attendees on the impact of governing boards on organizational performance, using data from the 100 Top Hospitals program.
The summit concluded with the opportunity to join Dr. McClellan for an exclusive luncheon and question-and-answer session following his keynote address.
