100 Top Hospitals®: Cardiovascular
Benchmarks for Success — 2004
Findings
The aim of the 100 Top Hospitals:
Cardiovascular Benchmarks for Success study is to provide benchmarks as
a tool for performance improvement for use by all hospitals that provide
cardiac care. The benchmarks themselves demonstrate levels of performance
that can be achieved and serve as a target for peer hospitals.
Based on comparisons between the Solucient 100 Top Hospitals: Cardiovascular Benchmarks Hospitals and a peer group limited to similar high-volume hospitals, we estimate that:
In this year’s Findings section, we:
-
Present
our study finding that although coronary bypass patients are sicker
than ever, more are surviving—with 100 Top Hospitals showing
the best outcomes of all.
-
Display data for complete hospital performance reporting. In doing so, we expand the 100 Top benchmark analysis to reflect outcomes for the majority of patients, in human terms and range of statistical variation, to complement traditional epidemiological benchmarks used for internal performance improvement.
-
Provide performance measure data, and in doing so, identify performance differences between benchmark hospitals and their peers.
