100 TOP HOSPITALS®:

Based on Patient Outcomes, Not Popularity

The PINC AI™ 100 Top Hospitals® program is an unbiased, transparent approach to determine the top performing hospitals and health systems. The goal of the 100 Top Hospitals® program is to inspire hospital and health system leaders to strive for higher performance and provide added value to the patients and communities they serve.

Being recognized as a top performing hospital reflects excellence in leadership and governance from every person in the organization. No other ranking program provides as detailed insights, national benchmarks or trend reports as the 100 Top Hospitals® program. And, unlike any other healthcare ranking system, Health Systems never pay-to-play as our program is strictly based on performance.

THE FOUR PILLARS OF THE 100 TOP HOSPITALS REPORT

The 100 Top Hospitals® program uses a balanced scorecard approach with a focus on clinical, operational, financial, and patient perception. When health systems have favorable patient quality, we see their margins improve. These measurements, such as length of stay (LOS), help give health system leaders the ability to compare their performance to that of their competitors by using objective, reliable and significant indicators of operational excellence.

PATIENT EXPERIENCE

“It's been really helpful to prove to our stakeholders, our board, our own employees, our physicians that we are really a high-quality clinical program. We need to continue to invest in that, to continue that for our community. Our community really knows that we're great, but when you have an outside entity say, ‘Look at how you rank among your peers.’ It’s a great affirmation of all the work that we’re doing.”
Ruth Fisher, Vice President of the Heart and Vascular, Imaging and Respiratory Service Lines, Cone Health

“We are undergoing a 200-million-dollar expansion of our heart and vascular services. This is a big investment for any health system, especially when it has been a very difficult financial year. When the designation came in, it was validation that we are supporting a high-quality program and that we are doing the right thing; that we are investing in the future in the right area. When we got this un-biased appraisal of our quality, it was the validation we needed to continue the investment."
Ruth Fisher, Vice President of the Heart and Vascular, Imaging and Respiratory Service Lines, Cone Health

“With Premier's long history of phenomenal data analytics and everything you're doing with technologies now, it just makes us better. It's made us a better organization. I know now with confidence that the 100 Top will be viewed nationally in the healthcare field as something that is really worthy to strive for.”
Donna Sabol, Senior Vice President and Chief Quality Officer, St. Luke’s University Health Network

“We have 13 hospitals at Kettering Health, and every one of them strives to be a 100 Top Hospital. They view it though, not as an award so much as a reflection of great care they’re giving patients.”
Marcia Vixie, System Executive Director Quality and Patient Safety

100 TOP HOSPITALS®:

Health equity

To further our mission of inspiring hospitals to deliver value to their communities, the 100 Top Hospitals® program includes a focus on health equity. This information, collected from winning hospitals, is factored into the final rankings. The survey highlights the role a hospital can play while acting as a/n:

  • Healthcare provider by distributing critical services for community health and preventive care
  • Partner by teaming up with local organizations to implement critical programs
  • Anchor institution by supporting local economic and social progress

*Survey results are reflective of data provided by hospitals through the health equity survey that was completed from 2021 – 2022
