100 Top Hospitals®: National
Benchmarks for Success — 2003

Introduction

For 11 years, Solucient's 100 Top Hospitals®: Benchmarks for Success program has been setting the standard for hospital performance by identifying the top achievers in the industry, using a national comparative balanced-scorecard approach.

As the industry has evolved, so has our study. To be sure we satisfy the most up-to-date definitions of top performance, we continually evaluate our methods. With this year's study, we have added several new performance measures and modified a few others.

Providing top-quality care and maintaining operational efficiency is no longer enough—today's hospitals must find their niche in a highly competitive environment, and plan future enhancements to fulfill this goal. With this study, Solucient strives to provide more meaningful, consumer-friendly performance measures for public release locally.
